Christmas is creeping up fast, too fast, so please read all the information below.
THE GIVING TREE IS UP!
For the past 20 years, we have had a much cherished tradition we do every year called “The Giving Tree”. Last week CAPCA gave us the names of some families in their Head Start program that really need help so their children will have a happy Christmas this year. I have placed 5 ornaments on our classroom tree for each of the 12 children On each ornament you will find the name of a child, sex, age, size and gift request. Take a few minutes to look these over with your child and pick an ornament (or two, three, etc., there is no limit!) off the tree. I made a folder with copies of the ornaments in which you can sign on the ornament/ornaments you have picked. This will solve the problem of forgotten names and requests - it happens, I’ve done it myself. After you shop for this child/children, wrap the gift/s nicely and write the name on the package clearly. Tags come off and we always have several packages with no names we have to open to match them with the folder. Then you and your child can place the gift/s under the tree together. It is our hope that this will instill in our children that one of the true meaning of Christmas is love and sharing with those who need help. We will be talking about this message in class and encourage you to do so at home also. It is one way to show that even a little child can make a big difference in someone else’s life.
We need all the gifts under the tree by the morning of Friday, December 19. The CAPCA folks will be picking them up Saturday morning, December 20.
After all the ornaments have been picked, we will replace them with ornaments the children will be making in class! No commercial ornaments for this tree!
CHRISTMAS PROJECT ALERT
We want to give you plenty of warning about an upcoming project. This year we will be making Rudolph shirts! If you want your child to make one, you’ll need to bring a pre washed sweatshirt, long sleeved tee shirt, turtleneck, etc. You’ll need a very light colored shirt. In the past we’ve found the best colors to be white, light gray, or beige, pastels don’t work very well and dark colors or red or green absolutely won’t do. After you wash the shirt at home and have dried it (no dryer sheets or softeners please), bring it to school labeled with your child’s name. I’ll start making them Friday, December 5th and the last day to bring a shirt will be Tuesday, December 16th.
CHRISTMAS PARTY
Our Christmas party will be on Friday evening, December 19, from 5:45 ish until ? Santa (aka Craig Imboden) will be arriving at 6:00 to visit with the children so bring your cameras. The Christmas party is much more laid back than the other parties. It’s a chance to be with other families, staff, and of course, Santa. More details about the party will be in the next newsletter.
CHRISTMAS CLOSING DATES
Our last day of class will be Friday, December 19th, the day of our Christmas party.
We will reopen Monday, January 5th. Public schools will still be out for a professional day, but we will be open for day care only. You will need to remember to pack a lunch that day!
