THE GIVING TREE
For the past 21 years, we have had a much cherished tradition we do every year called “The Giving Tree”. Last week CAPCA gave us the names of some families in their Head Start program that really need help so their children will have a happy Christmas this year. I have placed ornaments on our classroom tree for each of the 10 children. On each ornament you will find the name of a child, age, and gift request. There is one ornament for each child that is labeled “Clothes.” On it, I have put their sizes. Please do not feel you need to get a full set of pants/shirt/shoes/coat, it was just to make sure that you had the necessary information should you choose to get a child some form of clothing. Take a few minutes to look these over with your child and pick an ornament (or two, three, etc., there is no limit!) off the tree. I made a folder with copies of the ornaments in which you can sign on the ornament/ornaments you have picked. This will solve the problem of forgotten names and requests. After you shop for this child/children, wrap the gift/s nicely and write the name on the package clearly (PLEASE DO NOT PUT “FROM _____” ON THE PACKAGE). Tags come off and we always have several packages with no names we have to open to match them with the folder. Then you and your child can place the gift/s under the tree together. It is our hope that this will instill in our children that one of the true meaning of Christmas is love and sharing with those who need help. We will be talking about this message in class and encourage you to do so at home also. It is one way to show that even a little child can make a big difference in someone else’s life. ***We need all the gifts under the tree by the morning of Friday, December 18. After all the ornaments have been picked, we will replace them with ornaments the children will be making in class! No commercial ornaments for this tree! Hello parents! Our pumpkin patch trip is still scheduled for tomorrow! I will post on here and send a Remind text in the morning on whether or not the trip will happen due to rain. The latest update is that we are supposed to have a break in the rain from 8:30-12 (which would be PERFECT). If we do get the break in the rain, bring your child in appropriate shoes and jackets!
Also, don't forget our Curriculum Night tonight at 6:00! Come with your child ready to experience Big Work! |
